Tribute to Ron Reid

Ron Reid, the Chairman of Help A Village Effort (HAVE), died suddenly on Dec. 10, 2020. He inspired people – to join him on the Board of HAVE; to support the work of the organization; and to carry out the work on the ground in India.

Update on projects in Nabaranghur District

Well projects are moving forward in Nabaranghur District, in Odisha, India, with funding from donations to Help A Village Effort. Twelve wells in Papadahandi, Boriguama, and Nanahandi Blocks have either been completed or are underway by NGO RUCHC (Rural Community Health Centre). Nishita Daudsena, CEO of RUCHC, says drilling takes eight to nine hours on a good day, or it could take up to two days. Each well provides water to hundreds of people. HAVE has committed about $23,000 to this 12 well project.  

Help A Village Effort nears fundraising goal for 2020

Minden-based charity Help A Village Effort has been working with rural villages in India for nearly four decades, turning donations from Canada into clean water and hygiene resources through partnerships with trusted non-governmental organizations. Funding in recent years has gone to the states of Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, and West Bengal on the east coast of India. SPREAWS

We left for SPREAWS on Thursday, Feb. 3rd in the afternoon after visiting several villages in Chittoor.  We arrived  late afternoon (6PM) after a 5 hr drive. We visited 5 villages and  an office of SPREAWS on Friday. These were 5 of the 10 wells we assisted with in this project. We met some of the staff including the leader Sajid Hussein.  We had an amazing meal with his family at their home.  Although we only spent a day with this organization, it was good day. STEPS in Tricy ….Jan 29

WE arrived in Tricy late Friday night. We travelled to the town of Andhur on Saturday where the STEPS  RO Filtration project is located at the St Paul’s school.  We  cut the ribbon to initiate the system which is now complete and functioning.  We all had a drink of the water..it was a great day with Sethu and his wife Ester.  We toured the school and observed an exhibition of science work by all of the students.
