RUCHC note to HAVE

Recently, HAVE provided funds to our NGO partner RUCHC for the purchase of a vehicle that functions partially as an ambulance. Two new scooters for SUCHI

Donations made by the Heffer and Penfold families of Minden allowed for HAVE partner SUCHI to purchase two scooters for travel between villages. We received word (and photos) that the bikes have been purchased and are already being put to good use.

Walk for Water in Glovertown June 15

The appeal below is from Glovertown HAVE members Gerry and Yuvadee (Beginning from Glovertown Academy on 15 June:  Registration 8 AM) In March, 2013, we (along with two other HAVE volunteers, David Phillips and Don Symons, from West Vancouver) visited two of HAVE’s Partners (SGUS in West Bengal, and RUCHC in Odisha) who took us into 32 villages, including 5 schools, where HAVE  has supplied bore wells of safe drinking water. CIDA project complete

HAVE is pleased to announce its CIDA project has officially been completed. To celebrate, there will be a special fundraiser at Wintergreen Pancake Barn in Gelert, Ont. on June 2 from 1 to 5 p.m. Read CIDA’s official letter to HAVE below as well as the executive summary of the project. Highlights: Over a four year period, the project successfully installed 196 tubewells, 100 with SGUS and 96 with SUCHI exceeding the original goal of 90 wells for each partner, due to the good exchange rate on the dollar. Water access empowers women and communities

Through  CIDA/HAVE (Help a Village Effort; water/sanitation projects in West Bengal and Andra Pradesh India, as many as 60,000 villagers, through the drilling of wells, gained access to clean water. These were 3-year projects partnered with fabulous local Indian NGOs. But water security is only part of the story! A Village Advisory Committee was established in each village.   The Committee determined placement of well, maintenance, water/hygiene education, bank accounts and received related training.
