14 new wells in West Bengal

HAVE partner SGUS reports 14 new wells have been drilled in the Purba Medinipur district of West Bengal, India.

In its quarterly report, SGUS highlighted its work from January to March of 2012, including wells in Takapura, Serkhanchak, Chatnabari, Harduachak, Mathurapur, Iswardaha Jalpai, Kanchichak, Abashberia and Baraibarh.

The NGO reports that water testing is ongoing at wells previously drilled for HAVE and no arsenic has been found.

As a result of the wells, 813 families now have safe, clean drinking water.

SGUS is one of HAVE’s trusted partners and has completed 90 wells as part of the HAVE/CIDA project. Due to favourable currency exchange, HAVE has been able to provide funding for an additional 16 wells in SGUS’s region.
