Vancouver Walk For Water raises $4,000

On the nicest day of the season, 50 walkers (as well as two dogs and 10 kids under 10 years old) came out for West Vancouver’s Walk for Water on May 26. Raising $4,000 (with more to come), the group walked three kilometres starting at St. Monica Church, Horseshoe Bay. Thank you to everyone who participated or donated money!  

14 new wells in West Bengal

HAVE partner SGUS reports 14 new wells have been drilled in the Purba Medinipur district of West Bengal, India. In its quarterly report, SGUS highlighted its work from January to March of 2012, including wells in Takapura, Serkhanchak, Chatnabari, Harduachak, Mathurapur, Iswardaha Jalpai, Kanchichak, Abashberia and Baraibarh. The NGO reports that water testing is ongoing at wells previously drilled for HAVE and no arsenic has been found. As a result of the wells, 813 families now have safe, clean drinking water. New photos from SUCHI

We received a new water and sanitation report from one of our NGOs in India, SUCHI. Here are just a few of the photos included. They are from January through March of this year and show wells and eco-san toilets being installed. This is year three of HAVE/CIDA funding to SUCHI, which has been responsible for installing 30 new wells, redrilling six others, and putting in 85 Eco-San toilets. SUCHI (Social Unit for Community Health and Improvement) is located in Andhra Pradesh (near Chittoor) about 200 km west of Chennai (Madras) in India.
