WE arrived in Tricy late Friday night. We travelled to the town of Andhur on Saturday where the STEPS RO Filtration project is located at the St Paul’s school. We cut the ribbon to initiate the system which is now complete and functioning. We all had a drink of the water..it was a great day with Sethu and his wife Ester. We toured the school and observed an exhibition of science work by all of the students. Then in the evening they had their year end windup which concluded with a lot of dancing by the students. A wonderful weekend.
The RO filtration is a dream come true for Sethu and the team at STEPS. It will allow the students to have potable water at the school for the first time since the school began in 1992. This school is the result of Sethu, his family and many others paying back to their community. It has 530 students from grade 1 to grade 10. Now they have clean drinking water thanks to HAVE and all of our supporters in Canada. (Pictures to follow)
We left Sunday afternoon for Vellore and arrive at 10PM.
Monday was a day we had a lot planned but all of us wanted a day of rest…we did just that.
Tuesday and Wednesday we toured the SUCHI – HAVE projects ..we visited 8 villages and saw the wells and Eco San toilets in 3 villages. The last one saw this afternoon was in a village where they were installed 8 months ago and are working realyy well. The villagers were all happy to tell us how happy they were to have their own toilet facilities.
I will keep in touch..tomorrow we finish with the tour of SUCHI in the morning and travel north to see the SPREAWS tubewell projects (3-4 hours drive). We will spend Friday February 4 in Kadapa viewing their new wells and discussing their projects.
